 I unexpectedly stumbled upon my photography career.
Up until 1998, I had always thought of my photography as a hobby. In February of that year I bought my first real SLR and enjoyed taking pictures of people and landscapes. Then, as I was entering my second year at the law offices of Morrison & Foerster in Tokyo, my friends started noticing my vacation photos. It wasn’t until one of the partners approached me with a request to purchase three of my pictures as part of refurbishing her office, that I was finally convinced to put together a portfolio.
Just three weeks later, I was offered the staff photographer position for Tokyo Weekender and Tokyo American Club magazines. I spent the next three years shooting cover and feature articles. I also began taking family portraits and special events. To my surprise, the phone did not stop ringing! Towards the end of 1999 I decided to take the leap of faith and pursue photography full time. It has truly been a fulfilling journey so far.
Since returning to New York in 2003, I have primarily shot corporate events, conventions, and tradeshows. My approach has always been to give a creative and artistic eye in bringing the corporate environment to life, while remaining unobtrusive to speakers and their respective audiences.
Over the last decade I have been fortunate to meet and photograph, celebrities, heads of state, and thousands of unsung people. I have shot their portraits, their weddings, and other special events. From photographing a cruise ship in the Atlantic to hot air balloon rides over Mt. Fuji, I am always willing to oblige a client no matter where the shoot. I have enjoyed photographing musicians, speakers, and performers, as well as fellow artists. I have been honored to be a critical element in capturing special moments in their lifelong careers.
While I try to give the camera a break from time to time, I still enjoy taking pictures when I travel, and am continually exploring new angles and views, most recently within the field of architecture.
